Tehsil Marmat Functioning Without a Tehsildar for Months, Locals Decry Neglect
Despite the establishment of Tehsil Marmat being a commendable administrative step by the government, the tehsil has been operating without an appointed Tehsildar for several months, causing significant inconvenience to the local population.
Following the transfer and promotion of the previous Tehsildar, Mr. Ravi Shanker, no replacement has been officially appointed to the Marmat Tehsil Office. Although the Tehsildar of Doda has been given additional charge and continues to carry out essential duties, residents of Marmat say the absence of a permanent Tehsildar is leading to delays and difficulties, particularly for the underprivileged.
Many locals have reached out to express their concerns, stating that despite repeated appeals, their grievances remain unheard. They question why Marmat is being treated differently compared to other tehsils, which have full-time administrative officers in place.
“It feels as if we are being treated like stepchildren,” remarked one resident. “Marmat is an integral part of Doda district and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Why then is our tehsil being run without a Tehsildar?”
The continued lack of a dedicated Tehsildar not only affects day-to-day governance but also undermines the trust of the public in the administrative system. Locals are urging the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to appoint a full-time Tehsildar to Tehsil Marmat and ensure the smooth delivery of public services.
