Urgent Appeal for the Appointment of Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in Border Areas

Gurmeet Dutta Chairman (ADAPMA) and Adv Anukul Bhagat met with Divisional Commissioner Shri Ramesh Kumar, IAS, to discuss the pressing need for appointing Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the border areas of Bishnah, Arnia, and Samba. The meeting underscored escalating security concerns, including infiltration risks and the alarming rise in drug abuse among the youth.

Residents of these areas have formally appealed for the swift recruitment of VDGs to bolster security measures and combat the growing menace of substance abuse. Given the proximity to the Pakistan border, the likelihood of infiltration remains a serious threat, heightening fears of instability among the local population.

The community also emphasized the urgent need to address the drug crisis, citing unemployment and the easy availability of intoxicants as key factors driving youth toward self-destruction. They strongly believe that the deployment of VDGs will provide a dual benefit—enhancing security while curbing the spread of drug consumption.

The authorities have been urged to take immediate action to implement protective measures, strengthen border vigilance, and ensure the safety and well-being of these villages.
